St Colmans Bann Primary school wins All county 7 aside 14/06/14 match report

St Colman’s   Bann Primary school  Laurencetown

The boys and girls of St Colman’s were ready for a challenge today, having secured their spot in the Final of the Cumann na mBunscoil by narrowly defeating a strong St Michaels, Finnis team 2 weeks ago, the boys and girls knew what they had to do but standing in their way was a strong St Marys PS Dechomet, who had already beaten last years winners in getting to the final.

Throw in was at 10.00 am with Louis O’Neill in nets fullback line of Manus Conlon, Thomas Brownlee, midfield  was Ronan Campbell and Tony McCartan and the forward line of Caolan Doyle and Danny Mc Cartan ,the match was up and running with St Marys settling earlier into their  stride than Bann ,with 2 points on the board to St Marys ,Ronan Campbell struck a nice point  from far out and the Laurencetown team where on the board ,both team traded points ,with Ronan and Tony dominating in the middle ,the long ball was produced to Caolan ,who was one on one with the St Marys keeper ,and netted a superb goal , the Laurencetown supporters  jumped to their feet with great delight ,St Marys  produced some good football to notch up another point ,Louis O’Neill was as steady as ever in the Laurencetown net which was coming under pressure with great defending from Thomas Brownlee and Manus Conlon  but the ST Marys boys  produced quick Ball thru the middle which saw the ball hit the back of the net ,they then notched up another point ,the whistle blew to end the first half which was a tight encounter ,St Marys 1-5 to St Colman’s 1-2,

The whistle blew and second half under way with the teams remaining  the same ,this was going to a be tough ask for Laurencetown players with St Marys slotting over another point leaving 4 points the difference ,it looked like a long second half ,but Manus Conlon broke from defence passed to Ronan Campbell who worked the ball through to Danny McCartan  who slotted between the posts ,from the St Marys kick out Tony McCartan fielded beautifully in midfield to secure possession  with a neat pass to Caolan Doyle who duly obliged with great skill and determination Goal was shouted from the supporters the atmosphere was rising ,and from the kick out Ronan won possession passed the ball out wide to Danny who produced a beautifully flighted ball to Caolan who slotted over the bar ,St Marys where rocked with the football being played ,and found it tough going, the Laurencetown team where dominating  ,St Marys made a few changes and picked up point ,the game now level and tension was evident with the Laurencetown teachers and parents now on their feet encouraging their team to go forward ,The laurencetown keeper thumped a long ball forward  who found Danny McCartan  who fist passed to Caolan Doyle Goal Goal was shouted the Laurencetown team where in front with 5 minutes to go ,Harry Agnew traded places with Danny McCartan as the work rate was evident and the effort that was put into this match ,but  the match was still there for the taking St Marys where not finished yet slotting over a long distance point that Louis couldn’t do anything about ,from the kick out Ronan fielded strongly won possession and hand passed to Manus Conlon who soloed through the St Mary’s midfield and struck a beautiful long range point that any  player would be proud of ,Everybody was looking to the ref for the whistle ,St Marys where still trying break down the St Colman’s  defence the ball was launched into the air by Tony Mc Cartan and the final whistle Blew ,St  Marys 1-8 to St Colman’s 3-5,Champions  St Colman’s Bann Primary school the

boys and girls celebrated on the field ,with a very strong panel the Laurencetown players were rewarded with medals ,and the Cup Presented to Ronan Campbell Team captain who showed great leadership on the field of play ,A great effort by all the panel who pushed the starting line up the whole way for each  position ,the bench was Rachael Carberry ,Eoin McManus,Tieran Lyness,Harry Agnew,Jack McCartan,Faolan McEvoy Adam Graham and Brendan Feenan ,with this being a seven a side tournament competition for places all year have been very tight ,A big thanks must go out to St Mary’s  PS Dechomet  for a sporting challenge, A big thanks must go to Sean McCartan  from Tullylish GAA who has coached all these  players at some stage in there development ,also a mention must go to Feeneys Gaelic football school who also has been honing up their skills in the after schools club ,to the driving force behind this success is Brian Campbell and Gary Feeeney who has taken these players to the top of the tree in one season ,a big thank you must go out to the teachers and staff of ST Colmans who with out there work and effort we wouldn,t be the champions ,

Great effort and teamwork can achieve great things St Colmans Bann primary school 7 A-Side Cumann na mBunscoil  An Dun CHAMPIONS ,

Also a big thanks must go to the family and friends who supported our school on this great day ,and a great Birthday present for Mrs O’Faogain   a day that she will not forget for a long time.
