Tullylish—- V—– An Ríocht
Welcome to all as the season for the Under 12’s boys and girls gets underway with a tough opener against An Ríocht at a windswept Pairc na nÓg on Sunday 29th March 2015. With a strong panel everybody would have to be at their best to challenge the Kingdom who always want the maximum points from any game.
The match is underway and Tullylish are playing into a strong wind. The first strike was the home team with a fine point from Rory Og Gaynor, that followed closely with a second from a free kick ,with some good work in the middle of the field from Tony McCartan supplying the ball to the forwards where Louis Hill and Tiernan Lyness were causing problems. The Kingdom levelled the match at 2 points each, with Tullylish coming under a bit of pressure in the back line but 2 great saves from Taylor Hadden that kept the home team level. Harry Agnew and Shea Molloy where busy with their backs to the wall but with the help of James Webb and big Louis O’Neill at the half back line they weathered the storm. From Hadden’s kick out, O’Neil fielded the ball forward to Tony McCartan who put a lovely ball through to Rory Og Gaynor who took a fine point, with half time approaching the kingdom Levelled – 3 points each.
Second half up and running with some good work Tullylish fed the ball into Daniel Morgan who passed off to Eoin McManus who rounded a defender and struck the net. “Great goal!!” was shouted from the line and this got the Kingdom going and they were throwing everything at Tullylish with some good blocks from McCartan and Agnew it was tough encounter but Tullylish won the ball in defence and a long clearance from O’Neill found Rory Og Gaynor who struck a long range point. Tullylish were now a goal and a point to the good, with Hill and Lyness still busy up forward helped by McManus and Morgan, but it wasn’t over yet and as any Kingdom side would do they kept the pressure on and somehow found the back of the net against play, with only a point in it and 3 minutes remaining it was the long ball from O’Neill in the half back line that found Tony McCartan who layed the ball off to Morgan who returned the pass and Tony Pointed. Tullylish 2 points to the good and changes were made with Alisha Breen coming on and Aoife Campbell and Heidi Conlon in the forward line there was little time left and Tullylish had won by 2 points.
This was a great team effort for the opening match of the season. They were well prepared by coaches Séan McDermott, Conor McManus and Gareth Johnson. A big thanks goes out to a sporting An Ríocht team who played in a hard fought game ,
Final score: Tullylish 1-5 An Riocht 1-3
