GERARD & RORY CAIRNS MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT 20/09/14

TULLYLISH  ANNUAL GERARD & RORY CAIRNS U10 MEMORIAL CUP AND SHEILD TOURNAMENT

20TH SEPTEMBER 2014

THE TULLYLISH BOYS AND GIRLS WERE DRAWN IN GROUP A WITH GLENN, BURREN “B”AND ST PAULS OF LURGAN

THE FIRST MATCH GOT UNDERWAY AGAINST GLENN. TULLYLISH STARTED IN GOOD FORM WITH POINTS FROM  LOUIS HILL, EOIN CAMPBELL AND SHEA MOLLOY. A BRILLIANT HIGH CATCH AND PASS BY  TONY McCARTAN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD SET UP HARRY AGNEW WHO HAD NO PROBLEM FINDING THE NET. TULLYLISH WENT IN AT HALF TIME 1-3 TO NO SCORE. GLENN CAME OUT AND BATTLED HARD BUT FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO BREAK THROUGH THE TULLYLISH DEFENCE OF SHEA MOLLOY ,JAMES WEBB AND  BROGAN McCOMISKEY. SHEA FITZPATRICK KICKED A BRILLAINT BALL TO EOIN CORBETT WHO TOOK A GREAT GOAL. THIS WAS SHORTLY FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER GOAL THIS TIME FROM MOLLOY WHO WAS IN GREAT FORM. GLENN RESPONDED WITH 2 POINTS BUT CORBETT AGAIN FOUND THE NETT WITH GREAT EASE. SEAN MADE A FEW CHANGES WITH JACK DEE AND CONOR EGAN COMING OF THE BENCH. EGAN HAVING JUST COME ON MADE HIS IMPACT BY PUMPING A LONG BALL INTO THE GOAL MOUTH FOR AGNEW TO FIST  INTO THE BACK OF THE NET. FINAL SCORE TULLYLISH 4-3 GLENN 0-2

NEXT UP WAS BURREN “B.” AGAIN TULLYLISH WERE QUICK OFF THE BLOCKS WITH  LOUIS HILL TAKING AN EARLY GOAL. FROM THIS KICK OUT TULLYLISH WON POSSESION AND SENT THE BALL FORWARD TO CORBETT WHO TOOK A FINE POINT. BURREN BATTLED BACK AND TOOK DECENT POINTS. FITZPATRICK MADE SOME BRILLIANT SAVES AND KEPT TULLYLISH IN THE MATCH. HALF TIME TULLYLISH 1-1 TO 0-2. EOIN CAMPBELL REPLACED EOIN CORBETT AND STARTED WITH A FINE POINT FOLLOWED BY POINTS FROM HILL WHO WAS MISSING NOTHING AND FROM McCARTAN WHO HAD MADE A GREAT RUN THROUGH THE CENTRE OF THE FIELD. BURREN TOOK ANOTHER POINT BUT COULDN’T GET PAST McCOMISKEY WEBB AND MOLLOY FOR ANY MORE SCORES. FINAL SCORE TULLYLISH 1-3 TO 0-3

NEXT UP WAS ST PAUL’S OF LURGAN WHO HAD WON LAST WEEKS TOURNAMENT IN LURGAN. THIS WAS GOING TO BE A TOUGH ASK BUT SEAN REMINDED THE PLAYERS TO KEEP PLAYING AS A TEAM. THE MATCH GOT UP AND RUNNING WITH HARRY AGNEW DROPPED BACK INTO DEFENCE AND SHEA MOLLOY SLOTTED INTO MIDFIELD THE SCORE WAS OPENED BY EOIN CORBETT TAKEN A FINE INDIVIDUAL POINT THIS WAS GRIPPING FOOTBALL WITH TULLYLISH DOMINATING PLAY BUT JUST MISSING SCORES. GOING IN AT HALF TIME IT WAS ALL TULLYLISH BUT SCOREBOARD DIDN’T REFLECT THIS TULLYLISH -01 TO 0-0. SEAN HAD WORDS WITH THE TEAM AT HALF TIME AND THE TEAM CAME OUT AND PLAYED SOME GREAT FOOTBALL. HOWEVER, TULLYLISH WERE FINDING IT HARD TO SCORE. ST PAULS TOOK A POINT AND THE GAME WAS LEVEL ,WITH SOME GREAT SVAES FROM FITZPATRICK IN THE GOAL  AND THE DEFENCE PERFORMING WELL IT LOOKED LIKE A DRAW  BUT WITH A HIGH BALL IN TO THE SQUARE THE BALL FOUND THE NET AND IT WAS TOO LITTLE TOO LATE FOR THE LISH  FINAL SCORE TULLYLISH -0-1 TO ST PAULS 1-1.

TULLYLISH PROGRESSED TO THE KNOCK OUT STAGES AND WERE DREW AGAINST THE  MIGHTY BURREN. COACH SEAN McCARTAN HAD WARNED TULLYLISH TO PLAY AS A TEAM AND TAKE THIER SCORES. THE GAME WAS UNDERWAY WITH GOOD WORK FROM WEBB IN DEFENCE WHO FLOATED A LOVELY BALL INTO EOIN CAMPBELL WHO OPENED THE SCORING WITH A FINE POINT CLOSELY FOLLOWEED  BY ANOTHER FROM HILL AND MOLLOY THIS WAS A PHYSICAL GAME AND THEY BATTLED HARD WITH THE HALF TIME SCORE TULLYLISH 0-2 TO 0-4 BURREN. SEAN REMINDED THE PLAYERS THAT THIS WAS OUR HOME TOURNAMENT AND TO DIG DEEP IN THE SECOND HALF. THE SECOND HALF STARTED WITH A POINT FROM TONY McCARTAN. HOWEVER, BURREN HIT THE NET EARLY AND IT SEEMED TO CATCH TULLYLISH OUT BUT THEY BATTLED ON WITH THE HOME SUPPORT CHEERING THEM ON THEY DUG DEEP BUT UNFORTUNETLY COULDN’T ADD  ANYTHING TO THE SCOREBOARD. THEY HAD EMPTIED THE TANK BUT BURREN WERE TOO STRONG AND RAN OUT WINNERS TULLYLISH 0-3 TO BURREN 2-3.

FOR SOME OF  BOYS AND GIRLS THIS WAS THEIR LAST U-10 MATCH AND THEY WERE DISSAPOINTED. BUT TO BE BEATEN BY THE EVENTUAL WINNERS OF THE TOURNAMENT IS NO DISGRACE. TULLYLISH ARE VERY PROUD OF ALL THE PLAYERS PERFORMANCE DURING THE TOURNAMENT AND THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

THE FINAL OF THE CUP WAS PLAYED BETWEEN ST BRIGIDS OF BELFAST AND BURREN. IT WAS A  GREAT DISPLAY OF CLEAN TIDY FOOTBALL WITH IT GOING TO EXTRA TIME WITH BURREN COMING OUT AS WINNERS. THE SHEILD FINAL WAS PLAYED BETWEEN BANBRIDGE AND WOLFE TONES OF LURGAN. IT AGAIN WAS ANOTHER GREAT FINAL AND WE WOULD LIKE TO SAY WELL DONE TO OUR LOCAL RIVALS BANBRIDGE WHO BEAT WOLFE TONES.

A BIG THANK YOU GOES OUT TO THE  REFEREES, UMPIRES AND PEOPLE ON THE GROUND WHO HELPED IN ANY WAY . A SPECIAL THANKS TO THE LADIES IN THE KITCHEN AND ANYBODY WHO SUPPLIED FOOD SANDWICHES,TEAS ,COFFEE,ICE CREAM,MINERALS  AND CRISPS. ALSO BIG THANKS TO EAMMON CAIRNS WHO PRESENTED THE TROPHIES ,TO THE WINNERS AND RUNNERS UP.

SOME OF THESE U IO’S ARE MOVING ON TO THE U12’S AND WOULD LIKE TO THANK SEAN McCARTAN ,ADRIAN BREEN AND JUSTIN HILL FOR THEIR HELP AND DEDICATION THROUGH OUT THE SEASON. GOOD LUCK TO THE BOYS AND GIRLS AT THE 12’S ,ALSO GOOD LUCK TO THE U-10’S WHO WILL COMPETE NEXT YEAR.
